"Wan, you take Jean's. I'll take Faye because she's on a higher level and i run faster."
"what's that supposed to mean??!"
"J... just go!!! we got 5 minutes!!"
Sheri raced up the stairs. she was desperate to confirm the jolt with Theon to see if the signs matched because he had the file, and if the others had felt it. She jumped up the steps 2 by two and tripped on the last one. she fell face down to the floor, with one knee bent up.
"oh, nuts." she muttered, looking at her grazed knee. she thumbed it and waited for the blood to clot. 'thank god for having a doctor in the family' sheri thought, and promised to disinfect it later, according to the circumstances. she ran in through Faye's back door.
"FAYE!!" she screamed. Faye looked up from her desk. "Give me a second here, i'll be right there." Faye said, and she slung her bag over her shoulder. she walked over to the door frame. "did you feel it?" Sheri burst. Faye hesitated before giving a small jerk of her head. Sheri grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her.
"This is it, let's go!!"
***
"Jean, did you feel that jerk?" Wan was standing by jean's table, occasionally waving to departing people she knew. "you mean that small jolt in my Art class? obviously. i fell off my chair." Jean admitted sheepishly, and Wan laughed.
"Sheri says it could be, well... that." Wan said. she began to frown. most uncharacteristic.
"really. then are we meeting up?" Jean asked. Wan nodded. "Since we have CCA today, i'm going to ask them to eat out. and you do have Drama CCA today, right?" Wan confirmed. Jean nodded.
"well, i was thinking Jurong Point. what do you think?" Wan asked.
"you have got to be kidding. I think that out of all of us, you're the most relaxed one." Jean laughed.
'relaxed?' Wan thought, almost angrily. "heh, probably." she smiled outwardly. Jean laughed and began packing her bag.
'as if. i know some things you don't, Jean.' Wan thought, calming down. Jean pulled on her sling and said, "let's go. foyer, yeah?" Wan nodded.
'and you shouldn't know. so i'm not telling you.'
***
"Ryan, we need to go. the others will be waiting." Theon rushed Ryan, who was confirming something with their class chairman. Ryan looked back at him. "i got it." he said, and turned back to finish up with their conversation. Theon closed his eyes and sighed, frowning.
'jeez. hurry up.' he thought, slipping his hands into his pocket. Ryan finally came over, and Theon walked out of the classroom.
"everyone has CCA today, including Jean." Ryan said, and Theon nodded. 'that's true. it would then make it easier for all of us to meet up since everyone has to stay back later.' Theon thought, as they started the 4-storey-climb down to the foyer, where they usually met up after school to go get bubble tea or snag lunch.
"would the tunnel be a light tunnel or time tunnel, i wonder. usually it would be time, but if it were, i have no idea about how much time our mystery jumper would take to come into this dimension. i'm more covered in terms of the light tunnel." Theon admitted. 'does this mean that he hasn't done a shred of research on the time tunnel?' Ryan thought. this didn't seem like Theon. he was really particular about whatever he started.
"but Sheri is." Theon finished, and Ryan got it. Obviously, more information would be obtained if they split tasks. "i'm going to spill about it during lunch, and i'm going to ask Sheri to tell us about what she got from all those times of research on the computer and in the books."
"would the jumper arrive anytime soon?" Ryan asked. "it's uncertain, like i said, it depends on the tunnel he uses." Theon explained, and they briskly walked to the foyer.
***
"the time tunnel depends on the distance between numbers and obviously the power of the jumper. each Dimension has a number fixed on it. when i refer to the distance between numbers, it means that..." Sheri held up her fingers in a number 1 and number 2. "if the jumper is jumping from dimension 1 to 2, the distance is very short." Sheri stretched out 3 more fingers on her right hand. "but if it's from dimension 1 to 4, the distance would be 3 times that of the distance from dimension 1 to 2. get it?" Sheri picked up her burger.
they were at the Jurong Point branch of Mac'Donalds, where Sheri was explaining first, the time tunnel.
"so..." Faye asked, "does that mean the jump from dimension 1 to 16 is twice the time taken for the jump from dimension 1 to 8?" Sheri nodded. "you catch on fast."
'so the distance is determined in numbers... these numbers are fixed in the code of each Dimension.' Wan thought, linking what Theon said to what Sheri did.
"This could mean that our theories are very similar. my research on the light tunnel shows almost the same thing, but it talks also about how much power is provided by the agent and the jumper." Theon frowned. he stopped eating his burger and interaced his fingers over the lower half of his face.
"A... agent? as in the starter?" Sheri asked. 'i didn't come across it,' she thought.
"according to the text, the largest agent would be a crescent moon, regardless of any dimension." Theon continued. "if the power of the jumper is large, it would boost the time taken to travel considerably. the only problem is that we have no idea what number dimension is his, and what number dimension is..."
"...ours." Sheri thought aloud. "that's why we can't calculate the time frame when he would actually land on our dimension floors." she said, and everyone took a breath. this could be a problem. 'if we don't know where or when the jumper will land, it's as good as starting from scratch.' Faye thought. Jean was looking uncharacteristically serious.
"Anchorage." Wan said abruptly. everyone was looking at her. "Wan, did you just say Anchorage?" Theon confirmed. Wan nodded. "so you know about that." he said. Sheri looked at Wan like she'd grown 2 brains.
"what's all this stuff about Anchorage?" Jean asked. "like a link, is it?" Ryan guessed. 'sort of...' Wan thought. "in a way, yes." Theon said. "the jumper needs some sort of anchorage to this dimension, and in this case, it would be our knowledge of his coming." he reeled off.
"with just our knowledge, there is a string tying him to this dimension. he will be able to land without fading away like some jumpers who have tried to jump for no reason. he will surely land near us." Sheri concluded.
"we need to go." Wan announced, looking at her watch. "yeah, we'd better get going, or we won't make it back in time." Ryan said, standing up. Faye grabbed her coke and pushed in her chair. Jean did the same thing with her iced lemon tea.
"so maybe we have CCA today, but if you guys feel the slightest jolt or something like a sign, contact me or Sheri immediately." Theon said. "even if it's in class."
'so that's going to be the plan.' Wan thought, tugging her bag strap securely on.
'...but will it be enough?'
